Dr. A. Chitharanjan Hegde, a prominent figure in the field of physical chemistry, was born on July 22, 1964, in India. From a young age, he displayed a keen interest in science, particularly chemistry. His academic journey began at Mangalore University, where he completed his M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1989 with a specialization in physical chemistry, securing an impressive 66.7% score. Driven by a passion for research, he pursued a Ph.D. in Chemical Kinetics from the same university, earning his doctorate in 1993.

Dr. Hegde’s professional career is marked by his extensive teaching and research experience. He began his teaching career as a temporary lecturer at Mangalore University in 1994. The following year, he joined the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, as a permanent lecturer. Over the years, he climbed the academic ladder, becoming a senior grade lecturer in 1999, an assistant professor in 2002, an associate professor in 2006, and ultimately a full professor in 2010. His dedication and expertise also led him to serve as the head of the Department of Chemistry at NITK.
