Dr. Moera Gutu Jiru is an accomplished Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU), specializing in composite materials, laser surface engineering, coating technologies, machining of hard materials, precision engineering, and tribology. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, along with an MSc in Manufacturing Engineering and a Bachelor’s in Manufacturing Technology from ASTU. Throughout his academic journey, he has served in key leadership roles such as Associate Dean of Postgraduate Studies at ASTU and member of various academic committees. He also serves on the editorial board of the Proceedings of the International Academy of Sciences. With an extensive research portfolio comprising over 42 international publications, Dr. Moera has made significant contributions to the advancement of surface modification, material characterization, and manufacturing process optimization. He has supervised more than 45 MSc and 5 Ph.D. scholars, demonstrating his dedication to academic mentorship and capacity building. Beyond academia, he has actively participated in industrial collaborations with organizations such as Ethio-Engineering Group and Abyssinia Steel PLC, contributing to training module development, mechanical system supervision, and technical consultancy. A recognized keynote speaker, curriculum reviewer, and research evaluator, he continues to play a vital role in strengthening the links between research, education, and industry within the mechanical engineering field.
