Jingyu Sui is a researcher in composite materials science at Shandong University, China, recognised here in connection with the Young Researcher Award of the Fiber-Reinforced Polymer event. The research concerns geopolymer and alkali-activated construction materials and the remediation of heavy-metal-contaminated soil.[1][2] The Google Scholar profile lists two documents.[3]

Abstract

This article summarises the academic profile of Jingyu Sui, a master’s student in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering at Shandong University. The work focuses on fiber-modified geopolymer repair mortars and polymer-modified alkali-activated slag. Two first-author papers have been published in SCI-indexed journals, and two patent applications are under examination.[1][2]

Keywords

Geopolymer mortar; alkali-activated slag; fiber modification; polymer modification; repair materials; low-carbon cementitious materials; solid-waste-based materials; microstructural evolution; heavy-metal-contaminated soil remediation; fiber-reinforced polymer.

Introduction

Jingyu Sui received a bachelor’s degree in Urban Underground Space Engineering from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering at Shandong University. The research addresses low-carbon cementitious materials and their durability, with attention to solid-waste utilisation and environmental remediation.[3]

Research Profile

The research record comprises three projects: two completed and one ongoing. The completed projects examined fiber-modified geopolymer mortar repair materials and polyacrylate-modified alkali-activated slag. The ongoing project concerns the remediation of heavy-metal-contaminated soil.[1][2] The work has attracted 13 citations in Web of Science, and two patent applications are currently under examination and have not yet been granted. Research has been carried out through internal collaboration within the research group. No consultancy projects, published books, editorial appointments or professional memberships are recorded at present.[3]

Research Contributions

The work contributes to high-performance, low-carbon cementitious materials through targeted fiber and polymer modification. One study clarified how different fibers influence the toughness, shrinkage and bonding behaviour of geopolymer repair mortars.[1] A second study developed an in-situ polymerisation approach for alkali-activated slag, producing an organic–inorganic cross-linked framework that raised flexural strength by 49.73% and reduced efflorescence.[2] These findings offer microstructural and design strategies for improving durability and mechanical performance.

Publications

Jingyu Sui has published two SCI-indexed journal articles as first author. The first, on the effect of different fibers on shrinkage and bonding properties of geopolymer mortar repair materials, appeared in Coatings in 2023 . The second, on acrylate in-situ polymerization in alkali-activated slag, was published in Journal of Building Engineering .[1][2]

Research Impact

The profile records 13 Web of Science citations and an h-index of 1, a measured early-career footprint.[3] The studies address practical engineering concerns, including repair-material shrinkage, bonding and efflorescence, which are relevant to the wider application of geopolymer and alkali-activated systems.

Award Suitability

The Young Researcher Award recognises emerging scholars. The nominee has two first-author SCI-indexed papers, two pending patent applications and three research projects, all completed during postgraduate study. The work on fiber and polymer modification is consistent with the scope of the Fiber-Reinforced Polymer event.[1][2]

Conclusion

Jingyu Sui’s research advances understanding of fiber- and polymer-modified geopolymer and alkali-activated materials, with continuing work on soil remediation. Self-declaration: the nominee states that the information provided is correct and complete, accepts that concealment of material information may lead to termination of the application, and agrees to the Awards’ terms and conditions.
