During his PhD, he conducted practical research at the Advanced Technology and New Materials Research Institute in Alexandria, Egypt. Prior to this, he earned a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry from Tanta University (2009–2013), where he worked on the design and evaluation of antimicrobial wound dressings. Mahmoud completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from South Valley University, Egypt, in 2006, marking the beginning of his journey in the field of chemical research.

Since May 2020, he has been serving as a fellow lecturer in the Faculty of Science at Tanta University, actively involved in research projects and co-supervising PhD and master’s students. Additionally, since 2018, he has been working as a researcher in the Polymer Research Unit at Tanta University. His research focuses on biomaterials, polymer science, and their biomedical applications. He also completed two postdoctoral research tenures at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Earlier, in 2021, he was a postdoc researcher at the Institute of Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology, Center of Experimental Medicine. His industrial experience includes working as a quality control and quality assurance chemist at Marico India Ltd., where he conducted chemical and microbial investigations. Mahmoud also held a research specialist role at the Advanced Technology and New Materials Research Institute in Alexandria, Egypt, from 2011 to 2013, where he evaluated and characterized biopolymers and polymeric membranes.
